EXAMPLE OF ANOTHER COUNTRY

1. WHY POLAND?

In our school there are some students from Poland like:
 Krzystof
 Kamil Burcynski
 Nadia Wal
 Oskar Guzwoski
 Monika Gacek

2. COUNTRY: POLAND

Poland is a country in Central Europe and it’s bordered by Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, the Baltic Sea, Kaliningrad Oblast and a Russian exclave. Poland’s capital is Warsaw. The total area of Poland is 311.904 square kilometres. It has got 38 million people, Poland has 16 counties. Which makes the 34th most populous country in the world. Poland is a member of the European Union. The currency of Poland is the zloty.

History:  The worst moment in the history of Poland was the 2nd World War. The Sanacja movement controlled Poland until the start of World War II in 1939.
During World War I, all the Allies agreed on the reconstitution of Poland that United States President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed in Point 13 of his Fourteen Points. A total of 2 million Polish troops fought with the armies of the three occupying powers, and 450,000 died. After the armistice with Germany in November 1918, Poland regained its independence as the Second Polish Republic. It reaffirmed its independence after a series of military conflicts, the most notable being the Polish–Soviet War (1919–1921) when Poland inflicted a defeat on the Red Army at the Battle of Warsaw, an event which is considered to have ultimately halted the advance of Communism into Europe and forced Lenin to rethink his objective of achieving global socialism. Nowadays the event is often referred to as the 'Miracle at the Vistula'.
Present-day Poland:
Bronisław Komorowski is the current presindent.
Now, like other countries, Poland suffered some economic and social problems and that makes some other difficult things for the correct operations. But there is also numerous improvements in human rights, like the freedom of speech. In 1991, Poland became a member of the Visegrád Group and joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Poles then voted to join the European Union in June 2003, with Poland becoming a full member on 1st May 2004. Now a days Poland continues being a member of the European Union.

CHOOSING A COUNTRY

Our students organized in groups have chosen a country. It is the country of some of our friends in the high school or the country of the language we are studying: France and England. Moreover our French teacher Jaqueline lived in France and the Language Assistant we had last year -Duncan Playle- is now living in England. So, we are plenty of good excuses to travel abroad.
